JSW Motors will unveil its Combat SUV on December 4, 2026, featuring robust specs and a plug-in hybrid setup designed to compete in India’s premium SUV market.

JSW Combat SUV Set for December 4 Debut: Key Specs and Market Position

JSW Motors is gearing up to make a significant entrance into India's passenger vehicle segment with its first SUV, the Combat. Scheduled to debut on December 4, 2026, this model is pivotal for JSW as it establishes itself as an independent automotive brand in the country. The Combat is based on the Chery Jetour T2 platform and promises a blend of rugged style, advanced features, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain geared towards eco-conscious buyers.

Despite the Jetour T2 undergoing a recent facelift in international markets, the Indian version of the Combat is likely to utilize the pre-facelift design. Recent sightings of test vehicles on Indian roads suggest that JSW is preparing for a model that balances global design cues with local market needs.

Powertrain and Performance

The heart of the Combat SUV will be a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, complemented by an 18.4kWh battery pack and dual electric motors that drive the front wheels. This combination is paired with a distinct 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, enabling a seamless transition between power sources.

The expected performance figures are compelling: a total output of 360 horsepower and a torque rating of 610Nm position the Combat as a performer in its segment. Notably, JSW aims for an electric-only range of 90 kilometers, while the overall driving range could extend up to 1,100 kilometers when combining the fuel tank and battery capacity. These figures, however, remain unconfirmed until the official launch.

  • Total combined range: Up to 1,100 km
  • Engine: 1.5-litre turbo-petrol
  • Battery pack: 18.4 kWh
  • Electric motors: Dual motors
  • Combined output: 360 hp / 610 Nm
  • Transmission: 3-speed dedicated hybrid (DHT)
  • Drive layout: Front-wheel drive (FWD)
  • Electric range: 90 km

(Note: These specifications await official confirmation at the unveiling.)

Design Elements and Dimensions

The Combat is expected to retain the boxy silhouette reminiscent of the Jetour T2, characterized by its upright stance and bold wheel arches. However, the Indian version will feature distinct updates to the front and rear bumpers, along with modifications to the lighting system. Distinctive visual highlights will include:

  • Revised front and rear bumpers
  • India-specific adaptations for headlights
  • Combat lettering prominently displayed at the front
  • 20-inch alloy wheels
  • Roof rails embellished with neon-green accents
  • Robust wheel-arch cladding
  • Spare wheel mounted on the tailgate
  • Vertically arranged LED tail-lights

For context, the international version of the Jetour T2 measures 4,785 mm in length, 2,006 mm in width, and 1,880 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm and ground clearance of 220 mm. The dimensions and cargo capacity of the India-spec Combat will need confirmation upon launch.

Interior Features and Safety

Inside, the Combat is anticipated to share much of its layout with the Jetour T2. Key features are expected to include a large central touchscreen measuring 15.6 inches, along with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Additional comforts such as powered front seats with ventilation and memory functions, and a high-caliber 12-speaker Sony audio system, will elevate the driving experience.

With safety in mind, the Combat could incorporate six airbags, an advanced 540-degree camera system offering underbody visibility, and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems. The specific equipment available in the Indian variant will be confirmed at launch.

Pricing Strategy and Future Models

JSW is reportedly considering an ex-showroom price range of approximately Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh for the Combat. At this price point, the SUV will find itself in competition with established premium offerings such as the Toyota Fortuner and MG Majestor. Importantly, the hybrid powertrain and front-wheel-drive configuration will set the Combat apart in this competitive landscape.

The Combat will be locally assembled at JSW's manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. It's essential to note that JSW Motors functions independently of JSW MG Motor India and has engaged directly with China's Chery Automobile for its platform and component sourcing.

Looking beyond the Combat, JSW has plans to introduce two additional SUVs in 2027. These models will be based on the Jaecoo J5 and the retro-styled iCar V23, both expected to feature their own electric powertrains. The Combat's launch efficiency and pricing will play crucial roles in determining the brand's resonance with Indian customers as it begins its journey in the competitive SUV segment.
