At the Paris Motor Show, Alpine has unveiled the A310 Vision concept, a tribute to the classic A310, celebrating 55 years since the launch of the four-cylinder version and 50 years of the V6 variant. While the design is striking, it does not signify an upcoming production model, despite initial plans for a new A310.
Design Philosophy Behind the A310 Vision
Designed by a team led by Antony Villain, Alpine's design director, this concept aims to capture the spirit of the 1970s A310 rather than replicating it. The goal was to translate the original model's essence into a modern aesthetic that reflects Alpine's current design language. The A310 Vision successfully melds the smooth lines of the early four-cylinder versions with the more robust character of the V6 variant. The prototype measures 4.55 meters in length, 1.18 meters in height, and 2.03 meters in width—significantly larger than its predecessor.

A distinct split down the center of the hood, accompanied by a light bar, highlights the vehicle's modernity. An innovative translucent canopy partially reveals the cockpit area, which, notably, has been designed strictly as a two-seater as opposed to the original's 2+2 format. The three-spoke wheels pay homage to the early models, while the rear features a modern interpretation of the classic tail with a distinctive spoiler.

Alpine has clarified that the A310 Vision was primarily created to demonstrate the creative potential offered by its APP (Alpine Performance Platform). However, Alpine firmly states, "The A310 Vision is conceived as a design exercise celebrating Alpine’s heritage and not as a teaser for a future production model." This announcement raises questions given that the brand had earlier confirmed plans for a new A310 by 2028.
This previously anticipated model, intended to be fully electric, was expected to utilize an elongated version of the APP platform. Adjustments to the ground clearance were planned to accommodate a battery positioned both beneath the floor and at the rear, allowing the A110 to maintain a low vehicle height. With these dreams now seemingly on hold, speculation surrounds the motivations behind the shift—could it relate to the commercial performance of the recent A390? Current CEO François Provost might be reevaluating the strategy initially set by his predecessor, Luca de Meo, but details remain murky.
