Renault E-Space Concept: A Vision for the Future of Electric MPVs Unveiled

Renault showcased its E-Space Concept at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, held from October 12-18. This electric show car reimagines the iconic Espace, pushing the boundaries of modularity while introducing groundbreaking technologies designed for both drivers and passengers.

The unveiling was part of Renault's extensive display of its electrified range, featuring 22 vehicles—half fully electric and the other half hybrids. The impressive 2,500 square meter stand also featured three concept cars inspired by historical Renault models, including the reimagined Renault 8 Gordini and Renault 4 JP4x4 Concept, with the E-Space Concept being the star attraction. Its clean design, customizable modularity, and tech-infused cockpit mark a new era for the brand's vision of "living cars."

A Bold New Design for a Modern MPV

The E-Space Concept measures a generous 4.70 meters in length, making it just 2 cm shorter than the current Espace VI, while being 18 cm wider and 2.5 cm taller. This design reflects a strong tie to the original Espace model launched in 1984, revisiting its iconic silhouette and large glazed surfaces, complemented by a low beltline and a short, sloping hood that flows into an upright windshield.

La poupe, elle aussi très verticale, se distingue par une grande lunette arrière surmontée d’un becquet évoquant celui présent sur les Espace II et III.

The exterior design includes a striking front with a modern light signature and a distinctive grille.

A key feature of the front end is the vertical orientation accompanied by a new light signature shaped like a "U," integrating a pixelated design that surrounds the illuminated Renault logo, visibly appearing to emanate from the grille itself.

Renault places significant emphasis on aerodynamics with the E-Space Concept. It features a movable air dam designed to lower at high speeds to enhance aerodynamic efficiency. The smooth and contoured side profiles eschew traditional door handles in favor of sleek cameras acting as side mirrors, a nod to modern design aesthetics.

Interior: A Fusion of Technology and Comfort

The E-Space Concept is designed with passenger comfort in mind, equipped to accommodate six individuals across three rows, each with individual seating. The interior boasts an open, airy atmosphere facilitated by large glass surfaces and an all-glass roof that floods the cabin with natural light.

The cockpit features a large panoramic curved screen that enhances its innovative layout.

The driving area features an extensive, curved display known as the OpenR Panorama, measuring 1.13 meters wide and 11 cm high, which replaces the traditional dashboard design. This layout provides ample space while integrating storage solutions such as a curved storage unit that spans the width of the car.

Interaction within the cockpit is facilitated through two soft-touch touchscreen displays, managing the vehicle's functionalities. The concept ushers in a new driving experience with a compact steering wheel that employs a Steer by Wire system, removing mechanical links from the steering mechanism.

Modularity and Smart Design

Chaos and clutter are offset by clever design choices. The seating setup is highly customizable: the second-row seats can rotate 180 degrees, creating a sociable "TGV square" with the third row. When the seats face forward, they offer tablet-style screens for entertainment.

Flexible seating arrangements allow for creative uses of space, including a fold-down table.

In a four-seat configuration, the second-row seats can be completely folded down to create an expansive table for third-row passengers. The experience is further enhanced by a sliding console equipped with amenities such as an air purifier and a mini fridge, along with entertainment options and games integrated into the design.

The aesthetic choice stands out with a monochrome furniture style incorporating varying shades of red, from scarlet to deep burgundy, echoing the bold interiors from Renault’s models in the 1970s. This emphasis on color suggests a return to more vibrant, pop-oriented designs that the brand was known for in its earlier days.

Renault’s E-Space Concept represents a significant leap in the evolution of the MPV segment, marrying practicality with cutting-edge technology and avant-garde design. The fusion of elements from the traditional Espace with futuristic specifications promises to attract not only enthusiasts of the brand but also families looking for spacious, luxurious, and technologically advanced vehicles.
